From “Star Trek” Fan to Award-Winning Researcher: VSU’s Jordan Hewins Says Science Has the Power to Change Humanity
Jordan Hewins represented Valdosta State University’s Department of Applied Mathematics and Physics at the 2024 Annual Meeting of the Georgia Academy of Sciences, where his research, “Modeling the Orbital Dynamics of Super Earth Kepler-62f,” earned Best Oral Presentation honors. He conducted this award-winning research under the guidance of Dr. Billy Quarles, assistant professor of astronomy and physics.

New Nursing Technology Enhances Student Success at VSU
Valdosta State University's College of Nursing and Health Sciences recently purchased 11 new state-of-the-art, high-fidelity manikins — three Nursing Annes (scenario-based training simulators), two SimMan Essentials (core skills simulators), a SimMom (full birthing simulator), a SimNewB (newborn simulator), and four SimJuniors (pediatric simulators) — with funding from a Georgia Board of Health Care Workforce Nursing School Grant. The new manikins represent all ages, genders, and skin tones and mimic human anatomy and physiology.

VSU Student Named Dean at Augusta Tech
Aherial Polite, a doctoral student at Valdosta State University, was recently appointed dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at Augusta Technical College in Augusta, Georgia. She plans to defend her dissertation and earn her Doctor of Education in Leadership from VSU in Summer 2025.
